Assessment and Reporting
At IGS, assessment and reporting are seen as essential components of good teaching and learning.
Teachers use a range of strategies to assess student learning, and create a learning profile of each student. Students are involved in all evaluative processes - including, of course, self-assessment when appropriate.
Teachers then provide information to parents about the assessment outcomes in ’plain English’.
Parents of children in Kindergarten to Year 6 are able to meet formally with the Home Class teacher in Term 1 to discuss early progress for the year. This is followed up with parent and teacher interviews in Term 2 for Language teachers. Of course, parents may meet with teachers as needed.
Formal written reports along Commonwealth Guidelines are issued towards the end of each semester for all children from Year 1 to Year 6.
Reports provided to parents describe student achievement in each course or area of study, using a grade A to E (or equivalent). These grades are related to clearly-defined standards.
